Usage and billing

1,000 calls free per project every month, then 1 credit for each block of 500 calls.

Relay bills calls: one tools/call that Relay forwards to a connected app. Everything else is free: initialize, tools/list, pings, open sockets and creating links.

Free allowance#

  • 1,000 calls are free every calendar month, per project. Months follow UTC, so the allowance resets at 00:00 UTC on the 1st.
  • Each project has its own allowance. An account can have up to 10 projects.

Credits#

Past the free allowance, Relay charges credits in blocks: one credit covers 500 calls. The call that opens a block pays for it, so call 1,001 of the month costs one credit, which covers calls 1,001 to 1,500.

  • Credits are charged when a call is forwarded, before the app runs it, from the balance of the account that owns the project.
  • Credits come from your account's balance, the same balance every app on this site uses. Buy credits.

What counts#

The callCounted
Reached the app, which answered with a result or an errorYes
Reached the app, which did not answer within 180 secondsYes
Reached the app, then the host cancelled itYes
Reached the app, then the app's socket closedNo. It is taken off the month's count. Credits already charged stay, and later calls use the freed room.
Found the app not runningNo
Found the link paused, the app busy, or the link over its calls per minuteNo
Named an unknown tool or sent invalid argumentsNo
Was refused by the spend cap or for lack of creditsNo

initialize, tools/list, ping, notifications, link creation, sockets and keep-alive never count.

Spend cap#

A project has no spend cap unless you set one: in credits per month, when you create the project or later in its settings. Relay refuses any call that would take the month's credits past the cap. The host gets a tool error saying the spend cap is reached, and nothing is charged. A cap of 0 keeps the project inside the free allowance.

WarningThe publishable key is public, so anyone can create links and use your allowance through a socket of their own. Set a spend cap on every project whose app is public.

Running out#

When the allowance is used up and the balance cannot pay for the next block, calls answer with a tool error saying the allowance is used up, and nothing is charged. Calls work again as soon as you add credits or the month turns.

The Usage tab of each project in the dashboard shows this month's calls, the free allowance, the credits used, the spend cap and your balance.

NotePrices may change while Relay is new. This page always shows what Relay charges today.
